Can't really rate this item as I purchased it as a Christmas gift for my daughter-in-law. Her family likes waffles and she wanted one that would do several at one time. She would like to make many at one time to keep in the freezer for rushed mornings.

Best traditional waffle maker

I had been searching for a traditional waffle maker like Mom had when I was growing up. My husband purchased this one for me for Christmas and I am loving it. I can feed a crowd with one waffle and before they have finished the first one the next one is ready. This larger size maker is just what a family needs. I spend less time at the waffle maker and more time enjoying my waffles.

Thick batter

First, make your batter very thick, runny batter will drip down the sides. That wouldn't be a problem but at the bottom of the waffle maker there is a plastic base and there is a space between the plastic and the medal housing. If you get batter in the crack, it's a bear to get out. I had to use a toothpick and work at it for 10 to 15 minutes. You will have to play with the temperature to get the right color and texture of waffle. I found the 3 setting gives you a golden soggy waffle and the 4 a light brown if you leave it a little longer than the audible signal calls for. The audible signal is kind of irritating, for me anyway. I tried the recipe that came with the waffle maker and decided I liked the Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix much better. Just follow the Waffle Directions.
Pros: size, Value for Money, Appearance/ Design /Style
Cons: Difficult to use, difficult to clean

I waited over a year to make this purchase, now I wish I wouldn't have waited. Waffles cooked nice and evenly and with 6 in our family, it made getting everyone fed much quicker. Clean-up was easy just as stated and we will be using this kitchen tool often.

Does the job!

This waffle iron has exceeded my expectations, My family (of eight) is able to sit down to eat together instead of each person having to wait for the next waffle to be done. The recipe for the basic waffles makes a ton! so even my family has leftovers to freeze. Just be warned, the waffle iron does not have a two cup capacity, I'd say more like 11/4, any more than that and you'll have batter coming out everywhere. We're very pleased with our purchase and I would recommend it highly to my friends with big families and small.

Was not designed by someone who cooks

If it was not for the size of this waffle maker, I would return it for these design flaws:
First, is the alarm. It is only slightly quieter than the fire alarm in my kitchen. My kids jumped out of their seats the first time they heard it. Additionally, I'm not sure that the signal is tied to the temperature of the waffle maker. If the lid is open, the alarm continues to reset and sound. I will eventually pour epoxy into the wistle chip to silence it.
Second is the "easy clean sides". This is not true because stainless steel funnels spills into a seam where the plastic base and the stainless steel sides meet. The stainless steel should completely cover the plastic. Batter flows into this seam and is very difficult to clean out.
Other thoughts - The number of waffles it makes in one pass is good for my needs It heats up evenly across all of the waffles. The non-stick is average. However, I'm not sure these make up for the two really annoying design flaws.

Cons: design

We needed a new waffle iron. We were so tired of Belgian waffle makers and when we seemed to go out we were getting the regular waffles like at waffle house. We wanted to get one that made them like what we were buying at a restaurant. Didn't realized how hard it was to find a good regular waffle maker that was not to expensive. With some research (consumer reports didn't even have alot of info on regular waffle makers) I found this and looked at other consumer comments about it and all looked good. We got it and the quality of design and size is perfect for a family of 4. We can make waffles for whole family fast and clean up is easy. It stores away fine (flat only). Very good purchase. Shows how a little research and a good catalog company can get you exactly what you want and what works for the family.

Mixed Review

First, I will start with what I like about this product. I love the size. With a big family, it is wonderful to have six waffles done at one time! I also love the way it looks, very pleasing to the eye. But it didn't meet expectations as far as how I wanted the waffles to come out. I love a waffle that is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I have not found a way to get the waffles crispy. Also, even on the highest setting, it beeps before the waffles are done. I wish I had bought something else. I liked my old iron better, but I used it so much it konked out on me!!
Pros: six waffles at a time! and looks great!
Cons: wafflesw don't come out crispy

Mixed Emotions

I was glad to finally find an affordable waffle maker that would make 6 instead of just four. I can't seem to grasp how to keep them from sticking though. (I have tried two different recipes) I don't want to spray the surface, that's what we had to do with our last one, and over the years the maker gets sticky. I am not a fan of the plates not being removable. That makes it difficult to clean. I will keep on using the maker, maybe I just haven't mastered it yet.

Our family loves waffles, but I used to not like how long it would take to make enough for everyone. This waffle maker takes care of that problem. I can serve up waffles as quickly as I can make pancakes now. I like the beep it does when the waffles are ready so I don't over or undercook anything. I also like how the cord can wind up underneath for storage. You do need to be somewhat careful to remember to only touch the black part of the handle because the metal gets pretty hot. Other than that I can't say anything negative about it. We have enjoyed this waffle maker very much.

Not as good as it looks

I was highly disappointed with this waffle maker and I am waiting to see if I can return it. It heats unevenly so that top is raw when bottom is done. At the medium setting of 3, my waffles never get browned. Grids cannot be removed for cleaning as in my older waffle iron which I will now cherish since it works better although it is 30 years old and about half the size.
Also be careful of recipe estimates for numbers of waffles. Although this grill has 6 compartments, they are small and most recipes seem to assume a larger waffle. This is even true for recipes that come with the griddle. I made a recipe for 16 waffles where I was assuming 3 batches on this maker. It turned out to yield about 8 batches on this maker so that my husband and I were eating waffles for days.
I bought because with the birth of a baby recently I now have 3 grandchildren and 6 children/spouses. I was afraid that my 30 year old waffle iron would be just too slow for the entire crowd. I now realize the old maker makes two larger waffles and it will be easier to cut them up for firsts that to struggle with this machine that does not cook well and is harder to clean.

The waffle maker works very good but the features that the catalog says it comes with aren`t there. There is no locking lid and it can`t be stored vertically as the lid flops open.Maybe the older models had these features but I recently received mine and it doesn`t have these.I think it is still a great buy I just thought people should know.

Really Good but not great..

Good instead of Great, Why? The iron is a breeze to clean on the outside. It is Stainless steel, but you will swear there is a nonstick coating on it except for two places: the grooves at the bottom are a bit of a pain at times and the dial area is also a bit of a pain to clean. I've also had just a bit of sticking to the non-stick interior when removing items, and it happened with different batters.
The great, is the capacity, the looks ( I wish I had a sportscar with those nice of curves), it heats quickly and little hands helping "Daddy" don't get burned when they touch the outer case by accident. It never gets beyond a lukewarm outer case, even after making enough for a family of six.
The only real issue I have is with the beeper, it is supposed to beep when cooking is finished. Don't trust it, until you have used your machine a few times. Mine is off by about a minute, at setting three. Would I buy it again? Yes.

The Cuisinart Waffle Maker is a great addition to our kitchen appliances. It is easy to clean up.
We are also able to control what we goes into the waffle batter no artifical additives.
Even the left over waffles are better than any commerical products on the market .
We are looking forward to many tastey breakfasts.
