Sweeney Todd would own one of these

"First I had a cheap Borner V-Slicer--you know, the typical "As Seen on TV" type of thing. Seriously, it was great! But limited. I wanted something sturdier and more versatile. So I bought and OXO mandoline and returned it the next day. It didn't cut nearly as well as my old Borner. I then tried the De Buyer Swing, and I love it! The pusher is on a track and is spring-loaded for perfect tension and precision. I love that I have infinite control over the slicing width. I love the waffle cutting capability. Tonight I made perfect THIN sweet potato chips. If you have owned a V-slicer, you have to get used to a different way of cutting to work with the straight blade. It might feel awkward at first but be patient. Plan on sacrificing a few potatoes to get the hang of it. Once you do, you will be amazed at how accurate and awesome this little contraption is. I also love that all of it stores in one piece. Get one!"

A Disappointment

"I bought one of these in Belgium, and found it to be much less than I was expecting. The video played without sound, and yes, I did use PAL Region 2 to play it. It doesn't work here in the US either. The julienne blade comes loose frequently during use, and the action is far from smooth and even. For straight slicing and waffle chips it performs OK, but not great. Perhaps de Buyer's more expensive models live up to their promise, but this model does not in my opinion."
