Having never owned a steel before, I may not be the best person to be reviewing one here. However, after having used it on my knives, there was a remarkable improvement in their sharpness. I found it easy to use and not too long as to make it seem unwieldy.

I needed to step up from a cheap import bought years ago with a knife set. This model fit my criteria of quality (name brand) and price (retired on fixed income). It performs well, keeping my knives razor sharp with little effort.
