Sometimes simple is bestJanuary 31, 2010 Cookerellafrom Minneapolis, MN
Pros: capacity, durability, Easy to Clean/Wash, even cooking, Heat distribution, Heat retention, Long-lasting, Material, Value for Money, made in tennessee, eco-friendly
"I own the 12" skillet and this is the hardest working pan in the kitchen, by far. It is a joy to cook with this pan; everything browns so nicely and the heat retention is fabulous. Apart from using it on the the stove, I love to use it for baking. I regularly make dinner rolls, cornbread and pineapple upside-down cake, with amazing results. The skillet is super solid and the weight is substantial, but the helper handle is an excellent design feature. Cleanup is easy - I use warm water and a nylon brush, and always allow it to dry completely on a low flame burner before putting it away. I plan to have this pan for decades to come."

Wonderful PanJanuary 14, 2009 bigdipperfrom new jersey
Pros: pre seasoned
"I recieved this Pan as a gift and it has quickly become my favorite, the two handles are a plus and because it comes pre seasoned its great for browning and frying breaded foods because nothing sticks. The pan heats evenly and is not too heavy. Good quality and should last a lifetime unlike the pans with fragile non stick coating. No Kitchen should be without one!"

It's not heavyJanuary 4, 2008 Louisefrom Pahrump, Nevada
"I purchased the 12 inch skillet, it is another fantastic purchase from Chefs. The helper handle is a wonderful feature. I didn't think I would be able to lift it but with the helper handle that is no longer a concern. Even browning is not a worry everything browns beautifuly, being able to put it in the oven is such a great feature. I made a rack of lamb, I browned it on the stove and finished it off in the oven. My husband said it was the best he ever had. That is enough reason to own this pan for me."

A Brand You Can TrustJanuary 29, 2010 Kateresafrom Hanover, MA.
Pros: construction, durability, Easy to Clean/Wash, even cooking, Functional/Useful, Heat distribution, Heat retention, Long-lasting, Material, Performs Well, quality
"Cast iron has been around for, nearly, forever, and I've had this pan for just about that long. Of recent, I've started using it more, because I need more iron in my diet, being vegetarian, and a health practitioner told me the cast iron pans have this benefit. Good 'ole American ingenuity. I found that it cleans beautifully with salt added to the pan while still hot. Then I scrub it with the salt, rinse with water and dry. Season occasionally in the oven with oil, but never let it soak in water. It's a great, basic pan that fries anything exceptionally well."

Pros: Appearance/ Design /Style, construction, durability, even cooking, Functional/Useful, Heat distribution, Heat retention, Long-lasting, multi-purpose, non-stick, Performs Well, quality, size, Value for Money, Weight
"I recently bought the 12" skillet, and must say, if you don't own one of these, you have no excuse not to. It is an absolutely amazing pan for browning meats and pan-frying. It's versatile, and makes the trip from stove to oven without worries. I've even made pineapple upside-down cake in the thing. With proper care, this pan should outlast multiple owners, and for the price, you really have no excuse not to have one."

The ultimate stovetop workhorseJanuary 13, 2010 Weewillyfrom Saint Paul Mn.
Pros: construction, durability, even cooking, Heat retention, Long-lasting, Material, Performs Well, quality, Value for Money Cons: Handle gets hot, weight
"I don't care what your cooking on the stovetop, once you've properly seasoned a cast iron pan there is almost nothing you can't cook in it. I have a commercial restaurant stove that puts out 30,000 btu's per burner and cast iron is the only material that will stand up to what I dish out. That is why to me it is the "ultimate stovetop workhorse""

ok, but......January 12, 2010 hapsfrom Maryland
Pros: construction, Long-lasting
"I bought my Lodge skillet because I love seasoned iron pans and needed a different size and couldn't find an old one. They say it's pre-seasoned, but there is no comparison to real seasoning on good old iron skillets... so you need to season it yourself. However- it's well made and reasonable and the next best thing IF you can't find an old one."

Use them every day!December 10, 2009 JJLorettafrom Fort Collins, Colorado
Pros: construction, durability, Easy to Clean/Wash, easy to use, even cooking, Functional/Useful, Heat distribution, Heat retention, Long-lasting, Material, multi-purpose, non-stick, Performs Well, quality, size, Value for Money, Weight Cons: weight
"For years my husband and I have found ourselves trying different pans, and finding we always returned to our old cast iron 5 qt. casserole for many things - even tho' it was maybe a little large for many. I decided to expand our collection with the set of 2 skillets, and now we use them every day at the least excuse. I did do the seasoning procedure before first use but I'm not too sure I even needed to. They clean up so easily with a stiff plastic brush and hot water, Over the several months we have had them they've gotten even more non-stick. I just swish it out and leave it on the stove top.
Of course the disadvantage of cast iron is the weight (a side effect of the great heat charactistics!), but the skillets' helper handle is wonderful, and both handles are sized just right. I do miss having a lid - our casserole glass lid fits one but not the other, so I use a lid from other cookware if I need it. They are great for stovetop to oven dishes, which we do a lot.
Highly recommended! No cook should have to cope without at least one good cast iron piece, and the Lodge Logic line is the best I've experienced. I will get the largest skillet size next."

Versatile skillet that will last a lifetime.October 30, 2009 bjsechampsfrom Columbus, OH
Pros: construction, durability, Easy to Clean/Wash, easy to use, even cooking, Heat distribution, Heat retention, multi-purpose, Performs Well, quality, size, Value for Money Cons: Appearance, Handle gets hot
"I love my Lodge skillets and use them all of the time for sauteing vegetables, browning steaks, or baking some fine cornbread. Made a roux in one the other day for my gumbo and it works great for that with its excellent heat distribution and retention. One of my pieces I can't live without."
"I liked the idea of cast iron that is pre seasoned. However, this pan is heavy and has hot spots that make for uneven cooking. If it had cooked evenly, the weight would have been forgivable. It was relatively inexpensive but has burned a lot of food. Le Creuset would have been a better buy in the long run."

great for campingFebruary 17, 2009 ohioscannerfrom Lebanon, OH
Pros: non stick once seasoned well, maintain even tempurature on all parts of the pan, great browning and crisping, well fitting lids, can use on many types of cooking surfaces Cons: heavy if you have arthritis, can't leave them soaking or they rust, not for use on glass top stoves
"I have used Lodge cast iron skillets and dutch ovens for 30 years and they always do a wonderful job of cooking the food. I have used them on boyscout outings (I am a mom and an assistant). The skillets are good for frying bacon and eggs, french toast, pancakes, french fries, fish fillets, etc. The dutch ovens we use to make cobbler by using charcoal coals under and over the pan (with lid on). The boys gobble it down as fast as they can make it. My grandma used these pans, my mom used these pans and I use these pans. I would highly recommend them. Caution: some glass top stove manufacturers recommend against using them."

A kitchen stapleJanuary 28, 2009 ChefBoyRDDfrom Los Angeles, CA
Pros: easy to clean
"Any good cook MUST have several cast iron pieces in their kitchen. They are essential for getting a perfect sear on meats, or the crunchy exterior on cornbread. I recommend a small, medium and large size to be ready for every cooking challenge."

"I purchased the skillet at the end of last summer after years of owning cheap non-stick products that chipped after a few uses. This skillet is definitely worth it - from cooking pizzas to cornbread to fried potatoes. I will soon be purchasing the dutch oven."

You can't beat it for cost/benefitJanuary 8, 2009 no2h8from Louisville, KY
Pros: heats evenly and sears beautifully, becomes more non-stick over time Cons: could be considered heavy by some
"Cast iron is time tested, and durable. Non-stick if you take care of it properly. Clean up is easy and these will last a life time. I am especially glad I can get rid of Teflon and other non-stick skillets that are problematic environmentally and health wise.
Skillets are pre-seasoned so they can be used immediately. We cooked eggs straight away and they cleaned up easily.
They don't seem too heavy for daily use."

Best Value for the Best SkilletJanuary 8, 2009 PeaTeafrom VA
Pros: value, healthy cooking, easy to clean Cons: a bit heavy esp. for pans 12" and up
"These are my favorite pans as they sear meat fantastically, wash like a dream (soap and warm water mostly), do not break the bank, and all the while adding iron to my food. What more can you ask for?"

A ClassicJanuary 8, 2009 swftljh
"I have the 10 1/2 inch skillet. It's preseasoning is perfect. It didn't require additional seasoning, although the first several uses were for frying taco shells. It's been nonstick even since. When I cook for myself it's just the right size for a chicken breast or eggs or pancakes. It produces beautiful fond and the juices are sealed into the meat."
