Lodge Logic Cast Iron Skillet

Lodge Logic Cast Iron Skillet : It's perfect for making virtually anything from bacon and eggs to grilled sandwiches, pan-fried fish, and fabulous cornbread. Each has dual pour spouts and a helper handle. Set of 2 includes the 10 1/4" and 12" diameter skillets. Lodge Logic's preseasoning process penetrates the metal's pores thoroughly and uniformly, so it looks and performs better than traditional home seasoning. You still get the even heating, superior heat retention, and inherently stick-resistant finish that has made cast iron cookware a favorite of professional chefs. Oven safe. Made in the USA.

It's not heavy January 4, 2008
Louise from Pahrump, Nevada

"I purchased the 12 inch skillet, it is another fantastic purchase from Chefs. The helper handle is a wonderful feature. I didn't think I would be able to lift it but with the helper handle that is no longer a concern. Even browning is not a worry everything browns beautifuly, being able to put it in the oven is such a great feature. I made a rack of lamb, I browned it on the stove and finished it off in the oven. My husband said it was the best he ever had. That is enough reason to own this pan for me."

You can't beat it for cost/benefit January 8, 2009
no2h8 from Louisville, KY

Pros: heats evenly and sears beautifully, becomes more non-stick over time
Cons: could be considered heavy by some

"Cast iron is time tested, and durable. Non-stick if you take care of it properly. Clean up is easy and these will last a life time. I am especially glad I can get rid of Teflon and other non-stick skillets that are problematic environmentally and health wise.

Skillets are pre-seasoned so they can be used immediately. We cooked eggs straight away and they cleaned up easily.

They don't seem too heavy for daily use."

Best Value for the Best Skillet January 8, 2009
PeaTea from VA

Pros: value, healthy cooking, easy to clean
Cons: a bit heavy esp. for pans 12" and up

"These are my favorite pans as they sear meat fantastically, wash like a dream (soap and warm water mostly), do not break the bank, and all the while adding iron to my food. What more can you ask for?"

A Classic January 8, 2009
swftljh

"I have the 10 1/2 inch skillet. It's preseasoning is perfect. It didn't require additional seasoning, although the first several uses were for frying taco shells. It's been nonstick even since.
When I cook for myself it's just the right size for a chicken breast or eggs or pancakes.
It produces beautiful fond and the juices are sealed into the meat."

Wonderful! January 8, 2009
Nina from Boston, MA

"I love it! It's pre-seasoned well enough, and the cleaning is not too complicated. I use it all the time, but I agree a lid would be a very useful..."

Excellent Bakeware December 22, 2008
Bunnybear from Long Beach, CA

"I use my skillet at least twice a week. I roast steak, roasts and chickens in my skillet. I notice that with the roast that they keep all the juices and it is always juicy and tender. I use the one skillet and there is only one pan to clean up. The rest can be saved in the skillet anf reheated in the oven with the same taste and results."

Needs a lid September 12, 2008
BobC from Colorado Springs, CO

"Cast iron has always been the Best Cookware and these skillets are wonderful. Chef's should carry lids for these too. I use glass lids for my stainless cookware with these and they work wonderful. Some foods need to be covered to cook better -- like fried chicken. Lodge has cast lids for these available on the Lodge web site."

Great Skillet March 17, 2008
ashman from CT

"This is a top notch Cast iron Skillet, however I would suggest "seasoning" it prior to using. Although it says it is pre-seasoned, it cannot hurt to season it yourself."

billysboy from li ny

"if you are a serious cook like me , an iron fry pan is a must! i bought the 12' fry pan -very big, i can cook a big steak and all the trimings.cleans easy with just alittle soap. pan is heavy, so if you have a glass top stove be careful. also goes from stove top into the oven. double handles are a plus."

Great skillets January 17, 2008
Harley from Los Angeles, CA

"Bought them to fry bacon and chicken. After using them,I cook with them more than my Calphalon non-stick. Buy a stiff brush to clean and follow the cleaning instructions and they will last forever."

a must have pan January 5, 2008
Ceoli from Phoenix, AZ

"Everyone should have at least one cast iron skillit in their kitchen (or camping kit, or both). I've had this skillet for over 1yr and it's one of my favorites. I like the fact that it comes pre-seasoned (even tho' I know how to season cast iron, it saves so much work to just buy it this way, it's worth the extra couple bucks). It's my go to pan for many things, but especially making cornbread (if you haven't had cornbread cooked in a cast iror skillet...you're missing out...buy the small size of this skillet and try it, you'll never go back). My other recommendations: remember that cast iron is heavy...only get the larger sizes if you're sure you can handle them, and read the care instructions and follow them...if you do, this pan will last forever."

LOVE these skillets October 26, 2007
Perky from Clayton, CA

"Yes, it's true...cast iron pans are heavy, but these skillets have replaced all my other skillets. The preseasoning on these pans will stay forever if you follow the manufactor's directions for care and cleaning. The first eggs I fried in them lifted and turned with absolute ease. My mom always used these pans. I wish I knew how much money I threw away on nonstick skillets over the years. The buck ($) stops here!! I'm thrilled with these and I'm buying a set for my daughter. (If you have little strength in your hands or arms, the weight of these pans should be taken into consideration.)"

My "Everyday" pans October 20, 2007
Crash from Albuquerque, NM

"I'd become tired of my nonstick pans becoming ... not-so-nonstick ... after years of use, followed by the nonstick polymer coating starting to disintegrate. Not on cheap stuff, either; most of my pans are Calphalon. So I tried the cast iron, and I'm the only thing stuck to it :-) The preseasoning apparently works wonders, because from day one the pans have released as well as almost any of my nonstick pans, and my cleanup afterwards is trivial (just make sure to follow the (simple) guidelines for cleaning). None of the aluminum pans can produce the same sear nor hold the heat properly for a good saute for me like the heavy iron, especially when you're cooking several pieces of something. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is that the handle is a bit small for the size of the large skillet, and it can be unwieldy to move it around. But I'm still using it every day."
