Finally, a second oven that will cook up a casserole-for- two better than my large oven. I especially like the browning element. It really comes in handy when cooking for a houseful, when a second oven is always needed for those extra dishes like sides and breads. Figuring out the touchpad was simple and uncomplicated. Thanks for a terrific product.

I really like this oven. It has taken a little getting use to as my other combo is much easier. I use two of these instead of my big oven. The key pad is very hard to read so I keep a magnifying glass next to it. Price was excellent as the other one was expensive. Carefully reading the directions was helpful.
In the kitchen, I'm never without: Induction burners and combination microwave/convection oven and one cup coffee maker.

If you are expecting this combo-oven to cook like a full-sized convection oven, be prepared to revise your cooking expectations. As a microwave, size translates directly into the available cooking power and the cavity size. A similar observation can be made for counter-top convection ovens.
We have owned and used home kitchen convection ovens for over 30 years. The cooking capability of convection ovens is widely appreciated by those who like to cook. We bought this combo-oven expecting somewhat reduced capabilities. It surprised us by having more than expected depending on what was being cooked. We had to adapt to its reduced power and cavity size. Smaller amounts of your recipes will be needed as well as adjusted cooking times, generally longer times. Testing is essential to get the right combination of amount and time. We began with biscuits and found that an additional 30% cooking time was needed versus our normal time. They would not brown if cooked in a pie pan. They did brown when the top of a spring-form pan was used (no sides). We did not use the grilling element because that would not normally be used to brown biscuits.
We have cooked other things using the convection oven. Smaller masses generally cook in shorter times, closer to that recommended in the recipes. We generally use the pre-heat function to shorten times.
Overall, this combo-oven is worth the price and makes a good addition to a busy kitchen, especially when smaller amounts must be baked.

Haven't had it a very long time, but so far, it has been great. The first day I baked a two layer cake and a pan of biscuits to perfection! And I love the grilling function. After having a basic microwave for many years, this is quite a marvel for one who loves to cook. I've already recommended it to many friends. Thanks Chef's for a great sale price!

Works great, microwave function does not appear to be slower than the one it has replaced. Oven function works nicely, perfect for reheating baked goods or even backing little things, e.g. rolls.

Trade-offs

PostedJanuary 2, 2011

I bought this appliance because of its versatility. It gives me an extra small oven without sacrificing additional countertop space. However, there are trade-offs.
The 1000 watt microwave component is less powerful than the Sharp microwave it replaced, so it takes longer. Not a big deal. It makes substantially more noise than my previous microwave as well. A annoyance but not a deal breaker. The controls are very easy to figure out.
I have used the convection feature to cook appetizers, and it works well. I did not find the preheating time to be outrageous, as other reviewers have complained. However, this small appliance releases far more heat than my regular oven. There are vents in the back which emit some heat, but a large vent on the left side becomes extremely hot. Fortunately, my back door is right there and I open it to help prevent the kitchen from becoming too hot. I would not advise positioning this device in a cabinet or with its left side abutting a wall, as I think this would be a significant fire hazard.
Overall, I think it does what it's designed to do, but not as well or efficiently as a dedicated microwave or oven.
Pros: versatility, intuitive controls
Cons: Noise, heat production

Best Boat Purchase

We recently bought a boat and wanted a small, multi-purpose, and efficient oven. We looked at multiple department stores, discount stores, membership warehouse stores and even at boat shows and found nothing. I went on-line to CHEFS and found this great oven. It is a microwave, convection, grilling and regular oven in a size that fits on our boat. It is great. I plan to buy another one for my son for his home. The price made it even more desirable.
