Stoneware Bean Pot

Stoneware Bean Pot : There's only one way to make authentic baked beans: slow-baking at a low oven temperature for hours, to ensure the molasses, brown sugar, vinegar, pork and beans intermix in flavor. This traditional stoneware 4 1/2-qt. bean pot with lid is high-fired to a smooth finish, retaining the consistent heat of the oven to allow even cooking without constant stirring, providing smooth release for ease in serving. Accommodates any flavor variations, so if your specialty is New England baked beans, be sure to include the maple syrup and salt pork. Also ideal for slow-simmering soup in the oven. Recipes included. Oven- microwave- and dishwasher-safe.

My mother was in town visiting and I'd been asking/begging her to make her southern baked beans, she said no because last time she came she'd made them in a turkey roaster (I made alot to freeze the leftovers), needless to say they just weren't right.
She insisted I get a bean pot or no beans. I had to break down and get the bean pot. It wasn't that I didn't want one, I just couldn't find one in Southern Calif.
We got on the internet and found the same pot mother cooked hers in for over 60 yrs. My sister said she paid more than twice my price at one of those high end cooking stores and with Chefs the shipping free, great. But would we get the pot before mother's trip was over? We got the pot 4 days later and those beans were cooking the next morning.
Mother was right, the pot is the secret to perfect baked beans. Thank you so much Chefs Catalog for a wonderful memory, oh and the best yet is I've got mothers bean recipe from watching the old gal do it her way right there in my kitchen, thank you so much.
Mothers cooked baked beans in her pot for 60 some odd yrs, I look forward to just as many in my mine.

I looked at a lot of sites online trying to find an economical Bean Pot. Everyone else was much higher some as much as twenty dollors higher for smaller pots even. I am very pleased with my purchase. I bought a set of stoneware bowls sixteen years ago from you guys and I am still using them. You guys rock.

This pot worked out very well when I recently decided to make a pot of old fashioned Boston Baked beans like my mom on Maine used to make nearly every Saturday when I was growing up.
Good slow cooking, easy to clean and sized large enough to accommodate my recipe.

I bought this as a gift for my father. He has relayed to me that it cooks the smoothest, creamiest beans. He absolutely loves the pot. There is one negative mark for the pot. The lid is very difficult to get off when the pot is hot. The little knob on top that you would grab to remove the lid doesn't have much to grab onto and doesn't curve in at the bottom to create a lip to grab. I am afraid that while taking the lid off, it will slip from my gloved fingers and break. This is the only thing that I would change on this pot.

Love this new bean pot! I am so excited to try other recipes in it like stews. The only off thing I could say is the cover is slippery when opening the pot to stir. I invsion it breaking more sooner then later from dropping it. Other then that its great! I highly recommend this bean pot and you won't be sorry.

I looked all over for a good bean pot at a reasonable price, I went to chefs and found the exact size I was looking for, and it was at an excellent price, I would tell others about chefs, I looked through their catalog, and liked what I saw, I think I will be ordering from them again soon.

This project is great. It is definitely big so it is great for big family cook out but I also made a small batch just for myself. It is build well and cooks deliciously in the oven.
My only negative is the lid. It is small and very difficult to take off. But it is definitely not a deal breaker.
It is overall a great product and something that you well be able to pass down through the generations!

The bean pot was a good size. My wife found a recipe in a magazine that she gets we let them cook for about 6 hours after we soaked them overnight, they were out of this world.

Gave this to my husband as a birthday gift. He has an old family recipe for baked beans and he broke the cover on the last bean pot he had (which was an antique-ouch). He hasn't used the new one yet but likes it because it will hold more beans than the old one.

Classic heavy bean pot - weighs approx 4.5 pounds!

Nice heavy/classic ceramic bean pot - weighs approx 4.5 pounds, so it works great on a buffet line, or at a picnic because it keeps the beans at serving temperature. Good capacity. Probably the only drawback is that the knob on the top is also classic, so can be hard to remove with a bulky hot-pad. Great Value. You need to carry these in more sizes!

Thin materials compared to others. The knob that allows you to remove the lid is very difficult to grasp firmly with a potholder or glove.

Pot, in general, performs well. My only negative is a small 1/4 inch split in the lip under the cover. If the split doesn't turn into a crack and propagate, it will be ok.

I was very happy with the fast shipping from Chefs Catalog. However, I was very disappointed in the bean pot itself. It is a cheap, ceramic and very lightweight. I expected a nice, heavy stoneware pot. I'll see how it works for my beans.

The bean pot cooks beautifully. The problem is with the lid. When using a regular pot holder to lift the hot lid, there is not enough edge to grab. You need a rubber pot holder to be able to grip the lid.
