This butter dish does exactly what it is marketed to do and was exactly what I was looking for.
I did forget, as I was moving it off the dining room table, that water was in the bottom and tilted it a bit and spilled some water. Easy cleanup but it reminded me that I can't just sling it around.
Like I said, this product does what it says and is of good quality.

This little product works exactly as advertised. It's so wonderful to be able to spread butter that's at the perfect consistency without having to have taken it out of the fridge 3 hrs earlier. It's not too soft, not too hard, and it stays that way. The butter stays fresh and it's so easy to clean and refill. There should be one of these on every breakfast table!

Love the fact that you can put a stick of butter right into the butter dish direct from the fridge and it quickly becomes and stays the right level of softness. You can lift the tray out of the holder and serve the butter. The water stays in the bottom so never touches the butter. I've looked for one like this for awhile and Chef's had it.

It really seems to keep the butter fresh while keeping it soft. I had to add water below the blue line in the bottom, because when I added the butter dish part the water overflowed the bottom...so I would suggest you add the water and try it first before adding the butter. (and do it in the sink and not on the counter just incase, unless you like to scramble for paper towels).

I wanted to be able to use my real butter in the stick form, without having to worry about returning it to the frig when done with it, or worrying about spreading those hard chunks of butter...so this is a great idea.
I, like another reviewer, wish the inside of the upper lid was finished and smooth, even with a glaze on it. The lid sort of cheapens the rest of the butter boat. It's too lightweight compared to the rest, the knob is hard to lift the lid with, without almost dropping it, and the knob needs to be taller to be albe to get your thumb and forefinger around it to lift it up.
otherwise, I do like the concept of this butter dish.

This is a great new (old) idea. My husband always complained about hard butter right out of the frig. "Can't spread it", he would say. This butter dish solved the problem. It sits on our counter and keeps the butter spreadable.

I bought this item even though I had a similar item from another source. Yours works so much better and I always have spreadable butter. I hope it works as well during warm to hot weather and I don't end up with melted butter.

I have tried to use butter bells to maintain desirable temps on my butter, but the butter always fell out of the bell and into the water. This item prevents that problem with the water in a reservoir under the butter. It does lack the air seal of a bell, but is good for maintaining temperature. It is also a bit heavy and informal, but still an excellent item.
