Like most amateurs, I just assumed that knives were knives. The good ones are expensive and the bad ones are cheap. I had previously purchased a Kitchenaid block set which were priced pretty reasonably, and I assumed that I had a good set. Then I got married and my wife asked that we use some of our wedding gift money to buy a new knife set that I didn't think we needed. Soooo, we purchased this Wusthof Classic Block Set, and I'm a believer. These feel so much better in my hand, the weight is perfect and the metal is obviously of a much higher quality. In fact, now I plan to replace the steak knives (this block set comes with a less expensive Gourmet line of knives) with the Classic line. I can't wait to fill out the remaining slots in the block with even more new Wusthof knives!

The Real Deal / Excellent Price

I could not believe the price for this set. I was nervous that there would be something wrong with them. I had just purchased a smaller 7 piece set at a local retail store for the exact same price. I compared the knives side-by-side and these are in fact authentic Wusthof Classic knives. The only difference is that the text on the blade is different. The text on this set reads "200 Years of Knives" the other set lists the type of metal.
A lot has been written about this Classic set. They are well balanced, have strong and razor like edges, and they support the pinch grip and other positions that some eastern varieties don't do as well. They don't look as cool as some of the gorgeous Japanese knives with damascus metal work.
Bottom line: This price may be the best value in knives. It features a broad array (and non-searated steak knives!) of a tried and true design. Buy it.

I purchased a triple small set endorsed by Emeril about 4 years ago. I really liked them. A friend also was purchasing these knives one at a time, and said how wonderful they were. When the set was affordable I decided to purchase the set. I love them. I was cutting a chicken breast in chunks it was like cutting butter, effortless!!!!!! I will never purchase another brand again.
