Heavy Duty Silicone Trivet : Thick silicone, heavy-duty trivet elevates cast-iron cookware, pizza stone or roaster, protecting tabletop from heat. Protect marble or granite kitchen countertops from heat of soup tureen or stockpot. This 3/4"H heat-resistant trivet will not compress under weight. Replace thin or worn cloth pot holders on a table or breakfast island with this heat-resistant trivet. Safely support a Dutch oven, cast-iron fry pan or casserole baker with this durable silicone tabletop trivet. Heat-resistant to 500 F. Dishwasher-safe.
It flops, literally and figuratively, because the mold for the silicone makes it hollow underneath instead of solid. Thus the trivet flattens when a moderate to heavy weight is put on it. You will notice the ad only mentions marble or granite countertops, not wood or laminate. Thats because when flattened it is very close to the surface and could scorch or melt. And for what it is, it's over priced even under $10.
It really needs to be solid and about 2-3" wider in diameter, and another 1/8" taller; then it would work for stock and chef's pots, large saute pans, flat bottom woks, pizza pans, etc. As it is, it's not much use for anything other than a small omelet pan. Back to the drawing boards for this one...

Was a little surprised when I received this item. Had assumed (yes, that word) that the trivet would be a sturdy, rigid item. The "spokes" are stiff, in order to hold heavy weight, however, the silicone material between the spokes is soft, making the overall item kind of floppy. This does not seem to detract from the use of the trivet, just makes it floppy when you pick it up. Very attractive BRIGHT red and does hold hot pots and pans well.
