I bought this to complement my 8 slice slicer, and wish that Progressive offered this design in 8 slice also. The hinged cover not only completely 'pushes' out the slices unaided, but serves to protect the blades (and my fingers) from damage between use. A stroke of design genius!
I use this several times a week to make my favorite mushroom and onion gravy for steaks and burgers. The onion wedges are the perfect size....

Just finished making an new recipe apple pie using the new thin apple slicer/corer. I loved the perfection of the slices & total removal of the core. Slender slices made for a beautiful pie with the apples cooking evenly.

This great slicer and corer makes great, snack sized fruit slices. It's a great tool...a bit hard to clean, but great to use.

I have an OXO 8-slice corer that I have used when making pie and figured this one's smaller slices would make prep go faster. It does but the extra, hinged back cover just gets in the way so I knocked one star off. I was perfectly happy just pressing the slicer down on a cutting board to release the core and slices. Otherwise it speeds up coring/slicing apples for pie(just peel, run through corer and put in shell) or eating and is large enough to accomidate good sized apple.
