I have long wanted to try receipes using a french oven and after receiving this amaxing pan, I have tried two, a delicious beef brisket and roasted chicken. Loved the pan! Easy clean up even though food baked inside for over four hours. And really nice to be able to heat the drippings on my gas stove without the need for an additional pan.

I received this Le Creuset oval French Oven 10 years ago as a wedding gift, and it iis by far the most used baker I own! I use it at least twice a week - either to roast chicken, make a soup or stew, cook meatballs, and almost everything! I love the fact that it is pretty enough to go from the oven to the table if need be, and the enamel makes it a snap to clean. Being a long-time owner of this french oven, what surprises me the most is that it has worn well. If you were to see it in my kitchen today, you would never know that it is 10 years old!

We received this oven as a gift, and weren't sure how much we'd use it. We started out trying the recipes that came with the oven, and found we loved it, and now we use it all the time!
Our usual routine for this one is: stovetop for browning the ingredients, then oven for the slow, tenderizing cooking. We don't even need recipes any more; we just follow the basic steps from the original recipes and use whatever ingredients sound good, or whatever we have on hand.
All our meats turn out great -- we've done chicken and beef, lots of different cuts. We're very happy with this oven.
Pros: Appearance/ Design /Style, capacity, construction, Easy to Clean/Wash, easy to use, even cooking, Functional/Useful, Heat distribution, Heat retention, multi-purpose, Performs Well, Variety of Colors

This is an essential piece for stews and braising. I use mine for braising oxtails and veal shanks. After hours in the oven, they make a beautiful presentation on the table and are easy to clean. Even though these items are a bit pricey, they are totally worth it. They will last you forever!

My wife requested this item as a gift. I was a somewhat skeptical that it would see much use in our kitchen but wow!! was I mistaken! We use this oven all the time. This weekend I made an Indian style rice pudding in it and it maintained an even heat perfectly.
It is very easy to clean, the enameled interior cleans beautifully. It is heavy and well constructed and obviously, with proper care, will last many, many years; definitely worth the price.
Pros: easy clean up

Le Creuset- almost perfect

I've always wanted a good Dutch (French) oven and Le Creuset is reputed to be the best. After many years of getting by without one, I finally decided to throw down the big bucks and get the Le Creuset enameled cast iron 5-quart oval French oven in cobalt. It was packaged very well and arrived in good condition. The weight is fine- not too heavy, but substantial for good heat distribution. It's a beautifully finished piece of cookware with a tight fitting lid. In the box was a 68-page postcard size bright orange book. I was excited to learn about using my new oven and started reading. Two pages of introduction, two pages of remove stickers and do's and don'ts- hey...the phenolic knob on the lid only has a max temperature of 375°F. That's not good. Two pages of cleaning and care, Two pages of warranty. I can't wait! There must be basic cooking information and recipes next...NO! The rest of the book contains every language on earth, and not one recipe. Now, I know how to cook, but I thought for $229 there would be a knob that would handle more than 375°F, and also there would be few basic cooking hints to get the most out of this nice piece of cookware. I was on my own. I browned a sirloin roast in the French oven on my glass-top stove, which worked very well, then took the meat out and let it rest. Next I sautéed onions, then put-in garlic, cut-up vegetables, and beef stock. I put the lid on the French oven, then put it into my oven set at 350°F for about two hours. I cut-up the meat, added to the pot, and cooked for about 30 minutes more. I had perfect beef stew. This oval shape is a perfect size to brown a pork loin, which also worked very well. I ordered the $10 Le Creuset stainless steel knob to replace the phenolic one (I don't like to be restricted). I am making my own recipes. Overall, I'm very pleased, but somehow, it's the little things that could easily be improved, that would make me a happier customer.
Pros: Appearance/ Design /Style, capacity, construction, Easy to Clean/Wash, easy to use, even cooking, Heat distribution, Heat retention, Material, Performs Well, quality, size, Tight-fitting lid, Weight
Cons: Construction, Expensive/ Price, Handle gets hot, Support/instructions

I bought this in 2006. I use it at least once a week. I adore making soups and braising meats in it. The interior can be a little difficult to remove stains or cooked on food. I found using a small amount of baking soda with water to polish off the stains to work wonderfully. I also love all the colors this pot comes in. I purchased the cobalt and it is beautiful and vibrant!

Everything, ANYTHING!!!, Le Crueset is a kitchen must ...and this caserole is not only the perfect starter piece, it's the oval shape touted by Julia Child as a MUST (for cooking a whole chicken).
Cook low and slow. Braise, saute, or roast. It's a great conductor of heat. It cleans up 1-2-3. And, being Le Crueset, it comes with a lifetime guarantee.

This pot is heavy - so bend at the knees when lifting! But it works so well - for stews, soups, sauteeing and browning foods, then finishing in the oven.

Bought this french oven recently and now I don't know how I lived without it. I use it for everything-chili, soups, stews. You name it. It's so wonderful and pretty I leave it out on the stove all the time. It's great how you can braise something on the stove, pop it in the oven and then bring it to the table without worrying if the handles are ovenproof or if it looks good enough to bring to the table! After dinner if there's leftovers, I put it in the frig and just pop it in the oven or stove the next day for lunch or dinner. Couldn't make my life easier. This is a dish I know I will have and enjoy for years to come. Extra bonus- cleans up great! What more could you ask for?

I highly recommend these pans. I think they are the best I have ever cooked on and I now have several. I have made soup, stews and roasted entire chickens. Everything comes out perfectly because the pan really distributes the heat evenly no matter what kind of cooktop you have. You can brown on the stove and then finish in the oven and they are pretty enough to put on the table. The best part is that the cleanup is so easy. You can even put them in the dishwasher! They may seem expensive, but they are heavy duty, last forever and worth every penny!
