Lodge Logic Dutch Oven

Lodge Logic Dutch Oven : Made by the cast iron experts at Lodge, this revolutionary Dutch oven is preseasoned, so it's ready to cook right out of the box. Designed to replicate the all-encompassing heat of an oven on the stovetop, Dutch ovens are ideal for meat-and-vegetable dishes such as pot roast or chicken cacciatore. The 5-quart size is perfect for three to four servings. The 7-quart size is ideal for five to six servings. Oven safe. Made in the USA. Lodge Logic's preseasoning process penetrates the metal's pores thoroughly and uniformly, so it looks and performs better than traditional home seasoning. You still get the even heating, superior heat retention, and inherently stick-resistant finish that has made cast iron cookware a favorite of professional chefs.

"The lodge dutch oven is an incredible tool. I got it for camping and first thing i did was a leg of lamb in the great outdoors over a wood fire. I was amazed! The meat was tender and flavorful and I didn't even need to watch it closely. I couldn't believe how easily it cleaned up, without access to lots of hot water. I started using it a home for slow-roasting and I cannot tell you how impressed I am. The lid fits really tightly. It is quite heavy, so if you have oven racks that aren't terribly strong, it could bend them."

"I've had my dutch oven for at least twenty years. I purchased it for family camping when the children were small because of its versatility -- you can bake in it if you place a rack inside and put the cornbread, muffins, or whatever on the rack, and charcoal below and on the lid. We've had cobblers, baked beans, and mac and cheese made buried in the embers of a campfire. We even used it to boil water for lobsters on a trip to Maine, and the seasoning was not destroyed. Alton Brown suggested using it to fry chicken, and it really worked for that too, and there were no grease splatters to clean up because of the high sides. Mine is so old it wasn't preseasoned, but that is not a difficult process. It is very heavy so you don't want to walk far with it. I imagine it will still be in prime condition when our grandchildren are grown up and maybe their children too."

Incredible Dutch oven October 26, 2007

"My mother, her mother, and Great Grandmother all used cast iron in their everyday cooking. They were all Southern ladies making big meals for many folks. It was not until I saw Paula Deen using cast iron that I dedided to give it a try. Now I realize what is SO GREAT about cast iron. The fond on meat is perfect and the moisture maintained in this large pot made my pot roast as tender as cutting through butter'!! Now I know the secret of my mother's cooking.....and her mother.....and her mother. I've purchased all the lodge preseasoned cookware. Even eggs don't stick if you follow the directions for the care of the pans. Mother knows best!!"
